Mission:
WAX believes that the next generation of artists has a valid and imaginative body of work that deserves to be heard and seen in a professional setting. To that end, WAX cultivates an available, supportive environment that inspires discourse among artists in all media and encourages the creation of new work.
Through presentation, networking, audience building, artist assistance and public dialogue, WAX seeks to enhance the long term sustainability of its artist base thereby contributing to the livelihood of the performing arts field.
From 1999 - 2004, the WAX team managed a facility that provided production services to emerging performing and visual artists through subsidized rental packages and hands on production assistance. During that time, and in addition to self-production services, WAX developed two ongoing performance programs - WAXworks and The Bridge - encouraging creative experimentation and audience building. After the highly publicized closing of the WAX facility in November 2004, WAX continued its WAXworks and Bridge programs, and recently launched the Sugar Salon project through partnerships with and residencies in spaces throughout the city.
