From December 1999 through November 2004, the Williamsburg Arts neXus (WAX) facility at 205 North 7th Street served as a multidisciplinary arts center providing the downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn arts communities with reasonably priced rehearsal space, a visual arts gallery and a fully equipped professional theater for productions in all artistic disciplines. In addition to rental services and hands on production assistance, WAX launched two showcase programs - WAXworks and The Bridge - aimed at supporting performing artists in the process of making new work.

WAX's newest program, Sugar Salon, addresses gender inequity in the dance field by providing the only NYC modern dance series whose sole focus is creating lucrative residency, commissioning and mentorship opportunities for female choreographers.

In Phase II, WAX continued its Bridge and WAXworks programming through a residency at University Settlement from 2005-2006 and now moves the WAXworks 2006-2007 season into residency at Triskelion Arts. The Sugar Salon residency occured at Barnard College of Columbia University with its professional performance October 10, 2006 at the Peter Norton Symphony Space.

In addition to producing its own programming, WAX participates in community projects that aim to highlight Williamsburg as the breeding ground for some of the city's most exciting, alternative performance work. Advocating for the preservation of independent, artist run performance spaces, WAX is a founding member of the New Williamsburg Performance Alliance (New WPA) through which it recently sponsored a Fractured Atlas' public symposium - "Keep the Arts in Williamsburg."
